What is the Special Olympics?
The Special Olympics (SO) is an international sports organization that promotes greater participation in society by people with developmental disabilities through daily sports training and the opportunity to display the results of their training at competitions. The Special Olympics provides the opportunity for those with developmental disabilities to be true athletes.
The Special Olympics is headquartered in Washington D.C., and Special Olympics Nippon was established in Japan in November 1994. Currently there are district organizations spread throughout the country and Special Olympics Nippon is constantly expanding its sphere of activity.
